Domain Registration & Renewal Changes

In October 2025, Punktum dk announced the transition from a dual-model system — where domain names could be managed either directly by the registrant or through a registrar — to a registrar-only model. This release implements the first phase of that change. From 1 July 2026, only registrar management will be available for new .dk domain registrations. Existing registrant-managed domains may continue to operate under the current model through the transitional period ending 30 June 2028.

For full background: punktum.dk – Punktum dk changes administration model

The following policy changes will be enforced across all interfaces including EPP from 1 July 2026:

Registrant management disabled for new registrations: New .dk domain registrations must use registrar management. Attempts to register under registrant management will be rejected.

One-year renewal cap: Domain registration and renewal is limited to one-year terms. Requests for multi-year terms will be rejected.

Withdraw as registrar no longer possible: Registrars will no longer be able to withdraw from managing a domain and return it to registrant management. All managed domains must remain under registrar management.

New Feature: Fast Track Transfer (Optional)

Participation is entirely optional. Registrars that do not opt in are unaffected — the existing manual auth token transfer model continues to apply unchanged.

Fast Track Transfer is a new opt-in feature that allows auth tokens to be exchanged system-to-system between Punktum dk and the registrar, eliminating manual token handling by the registrant.

Self-Service Portal 6.12.0 — registrant-facing flow

• Registrants initiating a domain transfer are now presented with a list of all registrars accepting commercial registrations.

• Registrants can choose between the classic (manual auth token) flow, or the Fast Track Transfer flow for registrars that have opted in.

• On Fast Track Transfer selection, the registrant provides explicit consent for Punktum dk to share domain name, auth token, and contact information with the chosen registrar.

• Punktum dk initiates the backend flow towards the registrar and redirects the registrant to the transfer workflow URL received from the registrar.

Registrar Portal 4.8.0 — registrar configuration

• Registrars can opt in to Fast Track Transfer via a new "Fast Track Transfer" setting in the Registrar Portal.

• Opt-in requires providing a Fast Track Transfer endpoint URL and, optionally, an API key.

• Only opted-in registrars are shown as Fast Track Transfer–supporting in the self-service portal.

Backend API

Upon registrant consent, Punktum dk initiates a backend flow towards the registrar, passing domain name(s), short-lived scoped auth token(s), and contact information. The registrar responds with a transfer workflow URL to which the registrant is redirected.

Action Required

For domain registration and renewal changes (mandatory)

• Ensure your systems use registrar management for all new .dk domain registrations from 1 July 2026.

• Update any integrations that submit multi-year registration or renewal requests.

To support Fast Track Transfer (optional)

• Implement a Fast Track Transfer endpoint: github.com/Punktum-dk/fast-track-transfer-specification

• Enable "Fast Track Transfer" in the Registrar Portal and provide your endpoint URL (and API key if applicable).

Investigating - Dear subscribers

We are currently experiencing a network connectivity issue affecting the .dk nameserver l.nic.dk.

The .dk zone remains available through the other .dk nameservers, which are operating normally. As a result, DNS resolution for .dk domains is expected to continue functioning, although some users or resolvers may experience increased latency or temporary retries when attempting to reach l.nic.dk.

We are investigating the loss of network connectivity to l.nic.dk and will provide an update when more information is available.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Best regards
Punktum dk

Scheduled - Dear subscribers,

We will be performing scheduled maintenance on our secondary datacenter location, which is primarily used as a backup site while also hosting a limited number of production services.

Maintenance window:
Tuesday, 16 June 2026, 08:00 CEST – Wednesday, 17 June 2026, 16:00 CEST

During the maintenance, we will replace network switches with newer equipment. The work is planned to take place primarily during normal working hours, not during the night between 16 and 17 June.

We do not expect any network issues or service interruptions at our primary production location.

However, services hosted at the secondary datacenter may experience brief interruptions during the work. In particular, on Wednesday, 17 June 2026, the database behind the registrar sandbox environment may experience short disruptions.

We will monitor the maintenance closely and provide updates if necessary.

Best regards,
Punktum dk

What's New?
A new Domain Transfer shortcut is now available directly from the front page of the self-service portal. Users can start the domain transfer process immediately using a secure Magic Link, making the workflow faster and more accessible.

How It Works
The user enters the .dk domain name they wish to transfer to another registrar. The registrant will receive an email with a secure login link to the transfer page, where they can retrieve the domain's authorization code (Auth-ID).

Use the Auth-ID to complete the transfer with the new registrar.

Benefits
• Faster access to domain transfers
• Improved user experience through passwordless Magic Link authentication
• Greater visibility of the transfer functionality from the portal front page
